Which Side Are You On? RUSHMORE (video)
Here is Rushmore, Part 2 of Which Side Are You On? This work questions the monumental implications of the monuments that are tumbling and crumbling across the land. Sadly, the manifestation of hate has been the motivation to raise many monuments, as if the permanence of stone will preserve it. “You have to be carefully taught” said Oscar Hammerstein, and the “times they are a-changing” said that other guy. And amid the pandemic and in the tall shadow of George Floyd, the country is waking from a deep slumber of looking the other way—’so long as they’re not in my neighborhood.’ And today John Bolton, described by the NY Times as a variation on “Yosemite Sam,” has published his book with more insidious detail about 45’s transparent motivations and the evil therein. The election can’t come soon enough, but today also is the day of the Kentucky primary as we seek to find someone to remove and replace Mitch McConnell. In the meantime , the GOP controlled state has removed 95% of the polling places. Voter suppression is name of their game. It is pathetic and wrong and criminal.
As a writer and musician, these are the tools of my trade—to share the outrage in a way that likeminded people might find some comfort among the frustrational burns of the day.
