(Thank you) New York Times
A few more hours before I leave NY, but I did get to stroll by the New York Times building and took this photo. As journalism and journalists are attacked, it feels to me like this is one of the most important places in America. In Chicago, I’ve watched the Tribune be diminished, journalists compromised, terminated, pressured—doing any number of things that don’t fall into the category of Journalism with a capital “J.” But the NY Times holds strong and delivers those things hopes for in good journalism. In fact the NY Times, probably more than any other publication, has set a gold standard for what journalism can be.
I’m no photographer, but after I took this I noticed this little evergreen bush standing alone on the sidewalk across the street from the NY Times building. It strikes me as ‘voice in the wilderness’ calling out to the building across the street that “we the green-and-endangered earth need you to stay strong and bring the stories and the truth to the light of day.”
